AMCS Groundbreaking Ceremony

Breaking Ground, Breaking Barriers

March 26, 2010

On March 26, the weather was perfect for the AMCS Groundbreaking Ceremony. It was more than a well-attended event, it was a gathering of initiative, collaboration, and support of AMCS parents, students, teachers, staff, friends and leaders in the Alief Community.

Ms. Chieu, principal of AMCS, opened the program with a warm welcome to all the guests and participants and thanked all those who helped with the preparation. Representing the school board, Director Paola Palamountain congratulated Ms. Chieu and the staff. She said, “The construction is a dream come true and a shining light in the community of Alief.” Architect Kerry Gingrich called it “an excellent school reborn.” AMCS is honored to have Houston City Council Member Al Hoang as special guest who remarked, “Alief Montessori is a model for the diversity of Houston. I support you, and I will ask businessmen to help you.” Also present was Natalie Blevins, a staff of State Rep. Kristi Thiebaut.

A touching moment in the event was when Tob Ezekiel and Ayo Ezekiel recounted memories of their schooldays. In the messages they wrote themselves, they spoke about their eye-opening adventures and experiences in and out of their classrooms. They fondly described interesting traits of their teachers. Ayo and Tobi started coming to AMCS at three years old. Tobi is now eleven and Ayo is ten. Ms. Mubina Meghji, a primary teacher, fondly shared about her memories of teaching for 11 years and the occasional challenges she experienced at AMCS. Mr. Robert Castillo, a long-time AMCS parent remembered the field trips his kids went to, and said that AMCS’ hands-on education program left lasting impact on his children.
